Denise Benavides is a performance artist, poet, and educator. She uses the stage/page to confront themes of xenophobia, relocation, sexuality, religion, and love. Always, love. She writes to document, to archive, and to hold space for what has been lost—most of all, she writes for the women in her family.

She holds an MFA in English from Mills College and is currently teaching at Skyline College. Her debut collection of poetry, Split, was released in the fall of 2016 by Kórima Press.
